How You Can Help
The FFLC needs a constant supply of consumable items for art & craft and sewing.
Unwanted disability or medical equipment, freecycle goods for craft, good quality toys and educational equipment, musical instruments..in fact many, many items can find a good home in schools, institutions or homes in Comanesti. If you have suitable equipment please contact us and we will inform you of the venues for delivering items to Poole, Dorset, Somerset or Biggin Hill, Kent.
Would you like to sponsor a pupil at the 'Robert Cole Centre' or perhaps provide a family or shoebox? More details can be found at www.bigginhillromaniagroup.com
Can you help to fundraise by holding an event such as a coffee morning or by making and selling hand made craft items? All funds go directly into our projects and the people who need help.
Can you volunteer to collect and sort donated goods, load the lorry at Biggin Hill or Poole?
Would you like to volunteer to go out to Romania and deliver family and shoeboxes as part of a team at the beginning of December?
Finally but most importantly we ask that you pray for the success of the centre and for all of the staff and young people using it.
Some examples of how some others have helped Fund Raising and Donation: Lyn Jenkins and Sue Bagley are two of a group based in Barclays House, Poole involved with the BHRG. Lyn has been out to Comanesti over the last two Xmas to help with the Shoebox distribution and also went out in May 2006 for the Family box distribution. She is going out to help set up the Foundations for Life Centre in February 2007 and sent £500 to the fund following winning an award at her place of work. Sue organised a cake stall at the Barclays House group on Friday 15th October resulting in five tables of cakes which apparently still wasn't enough room to display all of them! The total amount raised was £645 which will be matched £ for £ by Barclays, so giving a Grand total of £1290 towards The Foundation for Life Centre.
Decorating and Plumbing: Every year the TEECH trustees visit possible projects to decide which would best benefit from their help and how they can help make them self sufficient. See the TEECH website for more information on how they helped the RCC and FfLC plus homeless currently housed in the wing opposite the FfLC.
Making up Shoeboxes on Mass and Collecting Equipment: Also at Barclays Sue is organising the group for the shoebox appeal and put a wanted notice on the board, with a shoebox display, for the items required - there are over 2000 people working in the building so they expect to get some donations - and believe they may already have some sewing machines. Lyn is putting together a box of consumables for the centre and they are transporting items they collect to Biggin Hill.
Donating Large Unwanted Office Furniture: Barclays Bank are donating an extensive amount of unwanted furniture to the centre including sofa's, book shelves and cabinets, tables and notice boards.
Donated IT Equipment and Instigating Local Art College Involvement: Lyn is also planning on contacting a local arts college (Poole and Bournemouth) to see if they would like a challenge to transform one of the rooms! She has got together a large number of sewing patterns, 3 colour printers and a scanner, a CD player and is now looking into the possibility of pottery wheels and equipment and a TV and video.
Council Furniture Rescued: Natalie owns 'The Wigmore Hairdressers', Mayfair has donated a wooden table, 6 chairs, 2 bedside cabinets, a television stand, lamps, curtains and a wooden bench. Her partner is a builder working for local Councils and renovates council property. He often has household goods that he is asked to dispose of and will now be donating required goods from the resource lists to the charity.
Contacting Local Businesses for Aid and Donations: Mabs and Mick Richardson in Haywards Heath have volunteered to contact local businesses and organisations to highlight the project. So far 'Carusel Music' have donated sheet music, 'Baldwins Fabrics' have donated design books, 'Mansell Mctaggart Estate Agents' have offered computers and 'Brewers Builders' have donated money. Having asked the neighbours to rummage through their lofts and garages, they have also come up with electric tools and sewing materials.
Fundraising through Companies: Jan Short found that since the recent publicity concerning the plight of the children in Romania some of her friends are showing more interest than usual in the work that BHRG do in Comanesti. So far Jan has managed to source 30 PC's for the centre.
Help with Transporting Equipment and Loading the Lorry: Penny Hann and Barry Goswell provided a van which transported goods free of charge. This eliminated the need and cost to hire rental vans and was a much needed practical way to help. They also braved the pouring rain to help load the November lorry.
Pottery Wheels:Ken Brown and Oakdale School provided two pottery wheels for the Art Room.
Musical Scores: Poole Music Shop supplied a large selection of musical scores and books for the Music Room.
Charity Donation:WBS Training-Neil Fowler have donated almost £1,000 to the charity.
